• Father Daughter Dance Ticket Information

    Tickets for the annual Father Daughter Dance will be available for purchase online January 5. The dance will be held on February 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Science Center of Iowa. Cost is $20 per couple and $5 for each additional daughter. Click below for more info or to volunteer.

Why not plan your next event at one of 72 beautiful parks?  The Des Moines' park system has 45 open-air and enclosed shelters that provide great locations for family reunions, birthday parties, baby showers, and school outings.  All seven of the enclosed and 30 of the open-air shelters are available to reserve in advance for your private event. Our traditional wading pools are also available for events at the rate of $25/hour, with a 3-hour minimum.

 

Most open-air shelters rent for $40 for the entire day during the regular park season, with exception of Pioneer West and Pete Crivaro Large which offer two rental sessions daily; 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for $60 per session, double fees on holidays.

  

Enclosed park shelters at Birdland, Grandview, Greenwood, MacRae, Pioneer and Union may be rented from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. daily, with the exception of Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  Greenwood, MacRae, Pioneer, and Union enclosed shelters rent for $80 per day, Monday - Thursday and $100 per day Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays only during the regular park season.  Year around rentals are available at Birdland, Grandview and ML King Enclosed Shelters.  Birdland enclosed shelter rents for $200 per day, Monday - Thursday, and $240 per day, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays other than Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  Grandview enclosed shelter rents for $160 per day, Monday - Thursday, and $200 per day, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays other than Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  Martin L. King enclosed shelter is available to rent, with the exception of Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, from 4:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., Monday - Friday and from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and Holidays other than Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day for a 2-hour minimum rental fee of $70 with additional hours for $20 each, double fees on holidays.

Most of the Des Moines Wading Pools are available for weekend events at a rate of $25 per hour, with a three (3) hour minimum.

 

Plan your next event at Gray's Lake Park.  The Overlook Terrace is a great place to have an event.  The Overlook Terrace is made up of seven sections with shade structures over sections 1-3 at the east end.  A minimum three hour time block for five sections of terrace (Sections 1-5) can be reserved for $200 with additional hours available for $67 each.  Rentals of the designated open spaces throughout Gray's Lake Park are available in six hour time blocks for $250. 

 

Organized trail system events which charge fees or collect donations and have more than 100 participants are charged a $250 event fee.
