    Preparations for this year's Des Moines Triathlon (Sept.5-6) will affect access to Gray's Lake Park starting Sept. 1. The park, trail and concession stand will remain open. No boat rentals will be allowed during the events. Click the link below to view the schedule of areas impacted.

  • Northwest Aquatic Center Open

    Northwest Aquatic Center will remain open through Tuesday, August 25, 2015, then close and reopen on weekends August 29 & 30, September 5 & 6 and Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2015.

  • Volunteers Rewarded!

    Over 100 volunteers are needed to conduct counts and collect surveys in 20+ different locations on September 15 and 16 from 4:15 pm to 7:30 pm and on September 19 from 11:15 am to 2:30 pm. Be rewarded for your time with your choice of a free bike rental at Gray’s Lake Park for each time they volunteer or free 2016 Des Moines Mayor's Annual Ride registration!

  • Free Food Preservation Class

    “Food Preservation 101,” a free ISU Extension class about food preservation principles will be held Sept. 15, 6 to 7 pm, at the Franklin Avenue Library, 5000 Franklin Ave. The class includes current recommendations for canning, freezing and drying. No actual hands-on preservation will be done in class. Email communitygarden@dmgov.org to sign up. Space is limited.

  • Yoga in the Park

    Des Moines Parks and Recreation and UnityPoint Health - Des Moines invite you to enjoy your Saturday mornings by participating in a free weekly yoga session at Gray's Lake this summer. The class will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. every Saturday, June 6 through September 26.

    On the second Saturday of the month (May to October), join us at Greenwood Park from 9 a.m. to noon to collect invasive species and UPCYCLE them into food and fun for Blank Park Zoo’s animals. Gloves and tools are provided and please come prepared for working outdoors!
