Engineering Mission

 

The mission of the Engineering Department is to provide public infrastructure essential to the safety, health, mobility, and quality of life for Des Moines' citizens, business, and guests.

 

Responsibilities of the Engineering Department


 

The Engineering department is responsible for design, construction, and project management for the City's Capital Improvements Program (CIP) in excess of $100 million annually. Services provided to meet these responsibilities include:
 
     Real estate acquisition and relocations services
 
     Environmental services
 
     Geographical Information systems for storm, sanitary, streets and property
 
     Traffic control signal systems, signs, and pavement markings
 
     Parking system operations including garages, lots, and street parking
 
     Engineering support of Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA) Management Agency. For more information about the WRA click here
