Human Rights Symposium
Program Agenda and Theme

The theme for the 33rd Annual Des Moines Civil and Human Rights Symposium is Move Passion to Progress.  This theme highlights the goal of helping people move beyond emotions towards tangible, substantive, community progress. By attending the symposium, attendees will learn:

              • Where they are starting from on their journey to progress;
              • How to map a route to their destination;
              • How to go the distance despite hurdles and challenges; and
              • How to pass the baton to future generations and fellow teammates.

To achieve progress, communities must move with the proper toolkit and mindset. We have organized four symposium tracks addressing progress based on that belief: Economic Progress, Political Progress, Social Progress, and Judicial Progress. Des Moines Public Schools' C.O.R.E for Advancement (Community of Racial Equity) will be presenting Future Progress, for-youth-by-youth sessions that explore the current ways the youth are leading the charge to a better future.

We are currently applying to offer professional continued education credits for: Legal (CLEs), Human Resources (SHRM and HRCI), and Social Workers (CEUs). Sessions that qualify for these credits will be identified as soon as credit hours have been confirmed.

Please sign up for the Civil and Human Rights Symposium mailing list to be up to date on the sessions, featured speakers, and credits for the 2019 Symposium.
