    The Mayor's Annual Ride and Run will be held on April 18, with all proceeds benefiting the restoration of the Jackson Street Bridge. The run/walk starts at 8 a.m. with the ride following at 10 am. Registration is $25 for adults and $5 for ages 5-18.   • Don't Miss Out on Kickball Season

    This recreational adult coed league begins play in ay with game times from 6:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. each Wednesday. Coed teams field ten players (5 men/5 women) ages 18 and over and play a 7-game schedule, one game a week, at the Greater Des Moines Softball Complex (4980 NE 46th Street).

  • Performing Arts Kids Club

    The inaugural Performing Arts Kids Club will be held Mondays at Pioneer Columbus Community Center (2100 SE 5th street) from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm, April 6 through May 4. The program ends with a student performance Friday, May 8, 5:30 pm and families are encouraged to attend. Registration is open through April 3 for this 5-week program, designed for kids in grades 4 - 6 and the cost is $19.

  • GPS Egg Hunts

    You get 2 chances to try the same fun with a fun modern twist – GPS Egg Hunts! Each registered participant will use a handheld GPS unit that has been pre-programmed with prize locations within the park. After an introduction and instructions, the hunt will begin. For each correct location, participants will select a small prize to take home. More than one person may walk along on the search but only registered participants are allowed to pick up the prizes.

This season all pools will open Thursday, June 6.  Northwest will open early for Memorial Day weekend (May 25, 26, 27), close and then reopen on June 6.  Ashworth, Birdland, Nahas, and Northwest will close on August 18.  Teachout Family Aquatic Center will remain open August 19, 20, 21 and weekends through Labor Day, September 2.

Swimming Lessons, Aquatic Programs & Events

We offer 3 sessions for Levels 1-5 each summer. Each session consists of eight 35 minute lessons held Monday-Thursday for two weeks.  Online registration begins May 10 at 8:00 a.m.

Season Swim Passes

 

Season swim tags will go on sale April 1, 2013 at the Des Moines Park and Recreation Admin. Office, 3226 University Avenue.  During the month of April you can purchase your season tags at the Early-Bird rates. Season swim tags can be purchased at the Park and Recreation Office throughout the summer season and also at the pools and aquatic centers when they open to the public.  Click HERE for pool pass fees.

 

Private Party Rentals

 

The fee for private reservations is $110 per hour and includes admission for 50 people. After 50 people, add $1.00 per person. You can reserve your party after April 1 and prior to the opening date of the swim season by calling (515) 237-1386 (press 1). After the pools open for the season, contact the pool manager at the facility to reserve your private party.
