About A.H. Blank Golf Course
Located at 711 County Line Road, Blank has some of the most unique features in Central Iowa. Blank first opened in 1971 as a nine hole golf course and expanded to 18 holes in 1985. Only one of the original nine holes still remains, but it has been improved with a beautiful pond and sand traps. The total yardage is listed at 6,700 yards, but depending on the tee placement, it can play somewhat longer. Annually there are over 40,000 rounds of golf played at Blank.
The course offers a formidable challenge, especially on the front nine. A lot of water and sand traps come in to play, adding to the course's difficulty. There are 30 sand traps and 10 water holes. The sand traps affect 14 holes with the 8th hole considered to be the most difficult. On the 8th hole, a pond lies to the left side of the fairway with trees on the right, which requires accurate shots just to make par. Hills play big factors on holes 11 and 12 where zoo animals often hang their heads over the fence.
Blank has implemented a "no mow" rule for much of their rough where stray shots may get lost in the high grass. The fairways are USGA approved ranging between 25 and 35 yards in width. The greens are always in excellent condition. Blank has been adding trees over the course of the decade, making it a more interesting course to play. There are plans to add 40 trees per year for the next five years.
The Chiodo family has been running this course for many years, and there are currently three professionals on staff to aid in the USGA approved teaching station. Blank features a full practice range and pro shop with a complete line of golf equipment. The clubhouse provides a snack bar and banquet room that holds up to 200 people. The banquet facility can be rented out for parties and meetings and offers a full menu to choose from. Please call the pro shop at (515) 285-0864 for more information regarding banquets.
