The Pioneer Columbus Community Center serves as a congregate meal site for seniors and spouses ages 60 and over.  In addition the Community Center doubles as an application site for low-income Community Services' Community Action Programs.  The Community Center hosts a number of Camp Fire, AA, and neighborhood meetings throughout the year.

The Recreation Sports office is located in the lower level of the Community Center and offers a number of spring, summer, fall and winter league and leisure sports activities.  Please see click on appropriate link below for current league sport and recreational activities and programs being offered or to check out current league standings.

Hours of Operation

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  Open gym hours are Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  The Community Center is not opened on recognized City holidays.  The community Center offers drop-in recreation weekdays only.  Hours of operation vary by season so be sure to view current activities and programs being offered to the various age groups below. 

 

Drop-in Recreation 

The Pioneer Columbus Community Center offers drop in recreation for adults year round.  Drop-in recreation is available Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.  Drop-in recreation is free to seniors over the age of 65 and youth under the age of 19.  For adults ages 19 to 65 there is a $ 1.00 fee per visit or you may purchase an adult monthly pass for $ 12.00 per month.

 

Computer Lab 

The Community Center offers a computer lab of twelve computers with internet access for use by the community.  No sign-up for lab use is required.  Computer lab hours are geared toward senior use from 9:00 - 10:00 AM but general hours of operation are 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM.  The computer lab is restricted to youth 16 or older and or those accompanied by their parent unless a special activity or program is planned for a certain age level .  Please plan your visit to the computer lab based on scheduled activities and program offering below.

 

Pee-Wee Sports

Pee-wee sports are geared for children ages 3 to 6 to promote awareness of others and socialization.  Team sports include soccer, basketball, and wiffle ball.  Soccer is offered in the spring and fall.  Five to six week basketball programs are offered in January and February. 

General rule of thumb for pee-wee sports registration; registration begins 4 weeks prior to the program and ends 10 days prior to program start date; practice game and pictures occur during the first week; game weeks occur during weeks 2 and 4; contests during weeks 5 and 6.

There isn't any limit to the number of children that can participate but a parent or guardian must be in attendance.  Registration and shirt costs can be found on the registration form.  There are scholarships available that off the regular price by 50%.  Scholarship applications and approvals are handled through the Community Services division of Community Development.

 

Room Rentals

Pioneer-Columbus has several spaces available for rent! Please call 515-248-6316 to book your rental.

The first price listed indicates our rental fee during operating hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM). The second price listed indicates our rental fee during non-operating hours.

Multi-Purpose Room: Seats 75 people. Rental includes a kitchen which has a refrigerator, stove, microwave, large coffee pot, and counter space. Fee: $35 or $60 per hour

West Wing Meeting Room: Seats 50 people. This versatile space has been used as a meeting room, aerobics classroom, break dancing area, and birthday party room. Fee: $35 or $55 per hour

East Wing Meeting Room: Seats 30 people. This space features a large open area as well as two offices, and a kitchenette with a sing and counter. Fee: $35 or $55 per hour

Conference Room A: Seats 15 people. Room includes one large table and a counter space. Fee: $15 or $35 per hour

Conference Room B: Seats 15 people. Room includes several small tables. Fee: $15 or %35 per hour

East Gym: Max Capacity 135. Wood-floor gym with large curtain that can split the gym in half. Volleyball posts and nets can be provided upon request for two full courts. Fee: $35 or $65 per hour

West Gym: Max Capacity 100.  Has four basketball hoops. Volleyball posts and nets can be provided upon request for one full court. Fee: $35 or $65 per hour
