Green Up Des Moines...Earth Day Means Action!
Registration closed 3/29 and we have over 1000 volunteers registered to GREEN UP GREATER DES MOINES! We're excited for this partnership effort between the cities of Des Moines, West Des Moines, Clive, Windsor Heights, Polk County Conservation, Ingersoll Business District, and Water Works.
Last year, we had over 1,000 volunteers on 64 teams in 50 project locations! They removed over 24,000 pounds of litter, brush & recyclables as well as beautified our public lands, cleaned up storm damage, and cleared away invasive species in an effort to improve Iowa's water quality and waterways. They even collected 37.7 pounds of cigarette butts as part of our Big Buttowski competition!
Volunteers are needed for Iowa's largest Earth Day volunteer event to continue these efforts!
Thank you for registering your team. Encourage them to participate in the Team Spirit contest and wear a team t-shirt, costume or anything to show you've got SPIRIT!
Each registered volunteer will get a wristband from their Captain (distributed at the Captain's meeting) for their free Big City Burgers and Greens lunch. We're trying to reduce our waste and we'll try to get everything composted or recycled from lunch. Bring your own water bottle to refill at the DM Water Works refill station
