What Not to Recycle
Plastic Grocery Bags and another other type of plastic bag

  • Return plastic grocery bags back to the grocery store.  They can be recycled into great products like playground equipment.

Yard Waste

  • Yard waste is compostable which is another form of recycling. 

  • The City offers a convenient program to recycle yard waste in a collection cart similar to the garbage and recycling collection carts. 

  • Appliances collected curbside and at SCRUB events in the City are recycled through our provider ESI. 

  • ESI collects the appliances free of charge at SCRUB events. 

  • Curbside collection of appliances required a $35 sticker for collection. 

  • E-waste such as computers and televisions are accepted at Metro Waste Authority's Regional Collection Center for Household Hazardous Waste, located at 1105 Prairie Drive SW, Bondurant, IA, 50035. 

  • There is a $.050 per pound fee to dispose of e-waste at the Center.

  • Anything made of styrofoam

  • Styrofoam food containers

  • Any garbage
