Youth Advisory Board

• Description

  Study and coordinate youth activities for the Des Moines area and make recommendations to the City Council and City Departments.

• General Requirements

  23 members: 7 adults and 16 youth members. Adult members shall consist of one representative from: Park and Recreation, Police, YMCA, the Des Moines School District, Youth Emergency Services & Shelter, Iowa Homeless Youth Center, Greater Des Moines Partnership, and the City Manager's Office. Youth members shall consist of six youth nominated by the Des Moines Independent School District and two youth nominated by local area non-public schools, 4 representatives at-large, 4 representatives nominated by community organizations (Creative Visions, Making Connections, Grubb YMCA, Des Moines Public Library, Sister City Commission, Partners for Economic Progress, and others.), and must be under the age of 19 at the time of appointment.
