Des Moines Parks and Recreation will offer Adult Coed Ultimate Frisbee League at Cownie Soccer Complex. Ultimate Frisbee combines the running of soccer, the jumping, passing, and turnovers of basketball, and the deep throws into the end zone of football.
The object of this non-contact sport is to throw a Frisbee up the field between teams of seven from teammate to teammate until it’s caught in the opponent’s end-zone.

Want to help restore the Monarch Butterfly population? Volunteers are needed to collect habitat data from local sites twice a month from May to September. All collected data will be shared with the University of Minnesota's Larval Monarch Monitoring database to help scientists better understand monarch migration, life cycles, and host choice.
Join us for a free training Saturday, May 7 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm at the Richard A. Clark Municipal Service Center (1551 E. Martin Luther King Pkwy). All ages are welcome. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.

Ewing Lilac Arboretum
Des Moines Parks and Recreation invites you to enjoy “An Afternoon at the Arboretum” at Ewing Park Lilac Arboretum (5300 Indianola Road) Saturday, May 7 from 1-3 p.m. While celebrating the annual bloom of over 200 varieties of lilacs, guests will be able to enjoy refreshments and lawn games including Croquet, Bocce Ball and Bags. This event is free and open to all ages.
Environmental Education Supervisor Joel Van Roekel will be teaching participants about the “Plant, Grow, Fly” program which is designed to attract Monarch butterflies and other insect pollinators. Kids will also have the opportunity to plant flowers and decorate a pot to take home with them.
