Gray's Lake Park
This month as you walk, jog or bike through Gray’s Lake Park, Des Moines Parks and Recreation encourages visitors to share their experiences through the written word. April is National Poetry Month and we ask you to turn your visit to Gray’s Lake into a practice of mindfulness and join others who crystallize a moment at the park in a three-line writing. The “Parks in Three Lines” program is a new spin on how to enjoy Gray’s Lake Park. We invite you to visit Gray’s Lake and capture your own moments in three lines by writing a piece in Haiku form. Write your three lines on the display boards at the park, tweet it to @desmoinesparks, post it on Facebook, or email it to email@example.com.

Each Wednesday from 11:00-11:45 join local birder John Bissell. Get to know the water and land birds that stop by Gray’s Lake Park as they pause to refuel for their continued journey north during spring migration. The lunch hour sessions will meet at Gray’s Lake from March 6th through May 22, 2013. March 6th through April 10th emphasis will be placed on water birds such as ducks, geese, loons, grebes, mergansers, pelicans, and herons and the public will meet in the beach parking lot on the north side of Gray’s Lake. From approximately April 17th through the end of May sessions will meet in the southeast parking lot for viewing of songbirds such as warblers, vireos, thrushes, and sparrows. Binoculars are encouraged – we have a few extra pairs if you forget yours. This spring program is free and open to all ages.
