City of Des Moines Greenhouse - 2501 SE Maury - Chesterfield Community Center
Des Moines Parks and Recreation is requesting the public’s help in beautifying and enhancing public lands in the city through the donation of perennial plants from their personal gardens. Community organizations such as schools, shelters, community centers, and neighborhood associations will benefit from the plants. The grounds of Mondamin Presidential and Lower Beaver Neighborhood Association, Forest Avenue Library, The Homested, and other non-profits throughout the city planted over 500 plants donated to the 2012 Spring Perennial Divide.Donations will be accepted at the City greenhouse beginning Friday, May 17th until noon Saturday, May 18. All types and varieties of plant material are welcome, including perennial flowers, bulbs, ground covers, herbs, ornamental grasses, shrubs, seeds, annuals, and tropical houseplants, as well as gardening equipment. No donation is too small! Donors are asked to label their plants with the type of plant, sun requirements, height, and color.
All Des Moines neighborhood associations and non-profit community groups that placed a flower order last fall are being asked to pick up plants at the City Greenhouse, May 17th and 18th
