  • What:

    Des Moines Parks and Recreation is holding a public input meeting to continue the planning process for future improvements of the Riverview Park area.

    After a well-attended initial public meeting, a concept has been generated and will be presented for public review and comment. The concept includes a music stage for small concerts, a park shelter, walking paths, small playground element, a history/donor area and improved landscape buffers along the lagoon. Once feedback is received, a final plan will be generated for the funding phase of the project.

  • What:

    Campers experience a week long day camp full of games, crafts, hikes, swimming, sports, nature activities, special events and lots of FUN! Other possible activities include field trips and special guest speakers. A portion of each week will also include fun, interactive literacy based activities. Campers are encouraged to help plan some of the activities with the counselors.

  • Free Tennis Lessons
  • When:

    Columbus Park

  • What:

    The Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department will be offering free tennis lessons through the USTA (United States Tennis Association) NJTL (National Junior Tennis League) program for children ages 9 to 14. The traveling instructional lessons require no pre-registration, simply show up five minutes before the lessons begin and your child may attend. Emphasis is on tennis as an introductory sport.

    Children should wear tennis or gym shoes wile participating on the tennis court.
