The
Community Services Division offers several
programs to assist low-income households
with their
heating and electric bills.
The
federal Low-income Home Energy Assistance
Program (LIHEAP) pays a portion of
the winter heating costs of eligible
households through a one-time payment
to the heating supplier. Grants average
$250 for the winter. Applications
are accepted from November 1 through
April 15 each year at all
Community Services Site Offices.
Limited
assistance with energy costs during
the spring, summer, and fall
months may also be available for low-income
households in danger of being disconnected
from service, or who are trying to
regain utility service.
If you or someone you know needs help,
call (515) 283-4180 for the
location of your nearest Payment Planning
Service (PPS) worker. PPS workers
assist you in developing a bill payment
plan and help negotiate service reinstatement
with the utility.
