Involuntary
Annexation Proposal
The
City of Des Moines has initiated an involuntary
annexation of 5,933 acres, most of which
are located near the recently completed
Highway 5/Highway 65 beltway at the south,
southeast, and northeast boundaries of the
City. The annexation would also include
all the islands of unincorporated land within
the City boundaries.
On
August 30, 2005, the State of Iowa’s
City Development Board approved the petition
for involuntary annexation.
On
November 8, 2005, the citizens of Des Moines
and the residents of the involuntary annexation
areas will have the opportunity to vote
on the annexation.
The
original involuntary annexation petition
was submitted to the State of Iowa’s
City Development Board in 1998. However,
due to the passage of time, updated facts
and figures were provided to the City Development
Board on July 13, 2005. This updated information
