Temporary Street Closures

 

Park Avenue from Fleur Drive to approximately 100 feet east of Park Plaza Drive will be closed on Monday, June 30, 2008, at approximately 8:00 a.m., open only to local traffic, for milling, patching and cleanup.  On Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at approximately 8:00 a.m. this section of roadway will be closed to all traffic.  The closure is necessary for construction of an asphalt overlay.  The street should be reopened to all traffic by 5:00 p.m. the following day.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and to obey all warning signs.  If there are questions, contact Adam Smith, Public Works Operation Manager, at 283-4950

 


 

E Grand Avenue from E 15th Street to E 14th Street westbound traffic only will be reduced to one lane beginning Monday, June 30, 2008, for approximately 2 weeksThis lane reduction is necessary to replace a Qwest manhole and vault.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and to obey all warning signs.  If there are questions, contact the City of Des Moines Traffic and Transportation Division at 283-4973.

 


 

Dean Avenue from E 19th Street to E 22nd Street will be closed beginning Wednesday, June 25, 2008, for approximately 2 weeksThis closure is necessary for the construction of a sanitary sewer.  A detour route will be signed using Walnut Street.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and to obey all warning signs.  If there are questions, contact the City of Des Moines Project Engineer, Roger Joanning, at 283-4076.

 


 

Beginning Monday, June 9, 2008, the Public Works Department has scheduled curb replacement on the north side of Douglas Avenue from 53rd Street to 50th Street.  During the construction, the street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.  Driveways to businesses will retain access at all times, although some temporary delays may occur.  The work is expected to be completed by Monday, June 30, 2008.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area and to obey all construction zone signs.  If there are questions, contact Adam Smith, Operations Manager, Public Works Department, at 283-4950.

 


 

31st Street between High Street and Woodland Avenue will be closed beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, for approximately 2 monthsThis closure is necessary to begin installation of a sewer as part of the Ingersoll Run Sewer project. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and to obey all warning signs.  If there are questions, contact the City of Des Moines Project Engineer, John Boehmer, at 323-8171.

East Locust Street from East 5th Street to East 7th Street  and East 6th Street from Grand Avenue to Walnut Street  will be closed beginning at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 19th, 2008 until 11:59 pm Tuesday, May 20thThis closure is for the Barrack Obama Rally to be held Tuesday, May 20th, 2008.  Local traffic will accommodated as much as possible for the area businesses.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and to obey all warning signs.  If there are questions, contact Traffic and Transportation, City of Des Moines, at 283-4973.

 

 


 

31st Street from Grand Avenue to Ingersoll Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning Thursday, May 22, 2008, for approximately 3 weeks. This closure is necessary for the Ingersoll Streetscape project storm sewer work. Local access will be maintained.  A detour route will be signed using 28th Street.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area and to obey all construction zone signs.  If there are questions, contact the City of Des Moines project engineer, Gary Hlavka at 283-4025.

 


 

High Street between 22nd and 24th Streets will be closed to traffic beginning Friday, May 16th, 2008, in conjunction with the Ingersoll Run Sewer Project.  This closure is necessary to begin installation of the sewer, and will be closed for approximately 2 months.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing.  If there are questions, contact John Boehmer, project engineer, at 323-8171.

 


 

The westbound curb lane of University Avenue east of 2nd Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, May 5, 2008.  This lane closure is necessary for water main construction in the area.  The closure will last for several weeks, and is part of a larger project to install a water main in 2nd Avenue between I-235 and University Avenue.  Lane closures will also later affect 2nd Avenue south of University as the water main work progresses.  The project is expected to be completed in August 2008.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing.  If there are questions, contact the City of Des Moines Traffic and Transportation Division at 283-4973.

 


 

The northbound lanes of the old Fleur Drive Bridge over the Raccoon River will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, May 12, 2008.  This closure is part of the bridge rehabilitation project that will be ongoing until later this fall.  A detour will be posted using M. L. King Jr. Parkway east to SW 16th Street.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing.  If there are questions, contact the City of Des Moines Project Engineer, Jon Fussell at 283-4027.

 


 

SE 5th Street from East Titus Avenue to East Hackley Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning Tuesday, May 6, 2008 for approximately 3 months.  This closure is necessary for Yeader Creek bridge rehabilitation.  A detour will be posted using East McKinley Avenue, South Union Street and East Porter Avenue.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing.  If there are questions, contact the City of Des Moines Project Engineer, Jon Fussell at 283-4027.

 


 

Scott Avenue from SE 30th Street to SE 34th Street will be closed to through traffic beginning Friday, March 28, 2008, and is scheduled to reopen by August 1st.  This closure is part of a project that will replace the Scott Avenue Bridge over Leetown Creekway.  A detour route will be signed using Dean Avenue.  Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area and to obey all construction zone signs.  If there are questions, contact the project engineer Jon Fussell, City of Des Moines, at 283-4027.
