SW 8th Street Viaduct over ML King Jr Parkway Rehabilitation of this bridge is scheduled to begin in
early May and continue through late November. This project will
require the SW 8th Street Viaduct to be closed for approximately
4-1/2 months. During that time, the SW 9th Street Viaduct will be
converted to two-way traffic..

Des Moines River Outfall – Downtown Sewer construction along
the West side of the river
A large box sewer is being constructed along the west side of the
Des Moines River and this stage of the project runs from south of
Court Avenue, north to the north side of Grand Avenue and then follows
Watson Powell to 3rd Street. Court Avenue at Water Street will be
closed on February 20th for approximately 6 weeks. Following that,
Locust Street and then Walnut Street will each be closed for about
6 weeks. Watson Powell will be permanently closed from Grand Avenue
to 2nd Avenue. Sewer construction will cross 2nd Avenue in stages.
The final tie-in will be in the middle of 3rd Street on Watson Powell.
This project may continue into next spring.

Easter Lake Drive at Indianola Avenue – Right-Turn Lane
Construction is scheduled to begin in April and be complete by the
middle of June. A right-turn lane will be constructed on Easter
Lake Drive at Indianola Avenue. The streets will remain open to
traffic.
4.
SE 14th Street and Hartford Avenue – Turn Lane Modifications
This project is scheduled to begin April 15th and be complete by
July 1st. A right-turn lane is being added on Hartford Avenue and
the SE 14th Street median will be modified. Traffic on SE 14th Street
should not be significantly affected.
5. Watson Powell Jr Way Modifications – 2nd Avenue to 7th
Street This project includes conversion of the block between 6th
Avenue and 7th Street to allow two-way traffic. Traffic signals
will also be rebuilt. Work is scheduled to start this summer and
be complete by the fall.

Fleur Drive, from south of George Flagg to ML King – Resurfacing
This project will place an asphalt overlay on Fleur Drive from the
railroad bridge south of George Flagg Parkway, north to the new
pavement south of ML King Jr Parkway. The plan is to close Fleur
Drive on two consecutive Sundays.

ML King/19th Street, University to Hickman – Resurfacing
This project will mill and then overlay asphalt on ML King Jr Parkway
and 19th Street from University Avenue to Hickman Road. The plan
is to close these streets on a weekend to complete this work.
8.
Crawford Creek Box Culvert - Replacement
This project involves construction of a large cast-in-place box
storm sewer and a 36-inch sanitary sewer. Hartford Avenue, from
SE 5th Street to SE 6th Street will be closed for at least part
of the construction period. Work is scheduled to begin in late July
and take about 12 months to complete.

2nd Avenue at Douglas and Madison – Traffic Signals
This project will rebuild traffic signals on 2nd Avenue at Douglas
and Madison. Work is scheduled to begin in the spring and be completed
by the fall
10.
E 14th and E 15th - Traffic Signals
This project will modify traffic signals on E 14th and E 15th at
Walker, Grand, Walnut, and Court. Work is scheduled to begin in
the spring and be completed by the fall.

Scarification work will not be allowed during peak
hours, 6:00 – 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 7:00 PM. Traffic
in both directions must be maintained at all times. Paving will
take place at night (8:00 PM – 6:00 AM) or during the
weekend. The street may be closed during paving

Scarification work will not be allowed during peak
hours, 6:00 – 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 7:00 PM. Traffic
in both directions must be maintained at all times. Paving will
take place at night (8:00 PM – 6:00 AM) or during the
weekend. The street may be closed during paving.

E Grand Ave, E 14th St to E 18th St
Scarification work will not be allowed during peak
hours, 6:00 – 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 7:00 PM. Traffic
in both directions must be maintained at all times. Paving will
take place at night (8:00 PM – 6:00 AM) or during the
weekend. The street may be closed during paving.

E 21st St, Hubbell Ave to Easton Blvd Scarification work will not be allowed during peak
hours, 6:00 – 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 7:00 PM. Traffic
in both directions must be maintained at all times. Paving will
take place at night (8:00 PM – 6:00 AM) or during the
weekend. The street may be closed during paving.

E 29th St, Douglas Ave to Aurora Ave Scarification work will not be allowed during peak
hours, 6:00 – 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 7:00 PM. Traffic
in both directions must be maintained at all times. Paving will
take place at night (8:00 PM – 6:00 AM) or during the
weekend. The street may be closed during paving.

Porter Ave, Fleur Dr to SW 9th St
Scarification work will not be allowed during peak hours, 6:00
– 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 7:00 PM. Traffic in both directions
must be maintained at all times. Paving will take place at night
(8:00 PM – 6:00 AM) or during the weekend. The street
may be closed during paving.

Woodland Ave, ML King to 31st St
Scarification work will not be allowed during peak hours, 6:00
– 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 7:00 PM. Traffic in both directions
must be maintained at all times. Paving will take place at night
(8:00 PM – 6:00 AM) or during the weekend. The street
may be closed during paving

In 2006, major I-235 construction will occur between Cottage Grove
Avenue and E 15th Street. This will impact travel routes into and out of the downtown
