The
2005 Greater Des Moines Trail Map is Dedicated to Dr. Robert F.
Breedlove
Dr Bob, as
he was affectionately known by his friends, was killed in and
accident with an automoble while biking on the Race Across America
(RAAM), a 3,000-mile bicycle race from San Diego to Atlantic City.
Although a well-known ultra-marathon cyclist with may world Records
to his name, for him some of the greatest times on the bike were
rides on central Iowa trails. These rides ranged from a safe route
out of town to start a longer training ride, to a pleasant afternoon
excursion spent with one of his four children or, most recently,
jogging along side his grandson riding on his shiny new trike.
Bob's passion
to live every day to the fullest was apperent in every aspect
of his life. He was a devoted man, dedicated physician to his
patients and, those in the cycling world will tell you, a determined
competitor on the bicycle. He loved the trail system that surronded
Des Moines, and used the trails on a regular basis.
Follow Bob's
example and hit the trails; by doing so you will be able to see
how great it is to live in Iowa. You will also be able to understand
the reality of Bob's famous saying "it' another day in paradise!"
Enjoy your trail system...Bob did!
