DISINFECTION
Wastewater
contains bacteria and microorganisms, some
of which are capable of causing disease
in humans such as typhoid and paratyphoid
fevers, dysentery and cholera.
Destruction of the disease-producing bacteria
(pathogens) is essential to the public health. The
disinfection process at the Des Moines Wastewater
Reclamation Facility ensures that pathogen
destruction has been achieved.
Laboratory
test are performed daily to include fecal
coliform. Process adjustments are done automatically
but can be made base on test results if
needed.
