Community Services Volunteer Opportunities

There are a number of volunteer opportunities available through Community Services, Des Moines' Community Action Agency. Call (515) 283-4180 for specific information.

  • Community Services Crisis Fund (Year Round)

    Provides one time help for emergencies. Cash or check donations made payable to City of Des Moines Community Services Fund.

  • Cooling Project (Summer)

    Helps assist people during heat advisories in the summer, donate new fans or new window air conditioners, cash or check donations made payable to City of Des Moines Community Services Fund for cooling purchases.

  • Holiday Food Project (December)

    Cash or check donations made payable to City of Des Moines Holiday Food Project, help putting food boxes together, and help delivering baskets to homebound individuals

  • Make a Difference Day

    Donations of personal items like shampoo, soap, toilet paper, diapers, etc.; cash or check donations made payable to City of Des Moines Personal Pantry Project; and help recruiting donations.

  • Neighborhood Revitalization Board (Year Round)

    Become a part of the Neighborhood Revitalization Board (NRB); the board that advises the City Council on low and moderate income issues. Contact your City Council Person concerning appointment.
