Dan Burke
District Fire Chief

District Fire Chief Dan Burke joined the Des Moines Fire Department on January 8, 1979. He has been promoted to and held the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, and District Fire Chief. He is currently the senior District Fire Chief on the second division, commanding district 1, which includes the downtown business district and the Des Moines International Airport. District Fire Chief Burke has received extensive training, education, and experience in incident management, executive development, technical rescue, hazardous material response, water emergency response, emergency medical training, fire prevention, code enforcement, and public safety education.

District Fire Chief Burke has obtained his advanced training at Des Moines Area Community College, Ankeny, Iowa; Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa; and the National Fire Academy, Emmetsburg, Maryland.
