L. Moody
Assistant Fire Chief
Assistant Fire Chief Rick Moody joined the Des Moines Fire Department on
January 22, 1979. Chief Moody served as firefighter at fire stations
number 2 and 6 until being promoted to Fire Prevention Inspector in
November 1987 and assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau.
Chief
Moody was promoted to Senior Fire Prevention Inspector in 1994 and
assigned to the Fire Investigation Division where he remained until his
promotion to Fire Marshal in 1997.
As Fire Marshal, he was responsible for the Plan Review of new
construction, Station Company Fire Inspection Program, Fire
Investigations, Code Enforcement and Public Fire Safety Education. As
Fire Marshal, Chief Moody created the well-known "LAFS (Life and Fire
Safety) For Life" public education program for school children and the
elderly.
Chief Moody was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief on March 17, 2003. As
Assistant Fire Chief he is responsible for the program management of the
Information Technology section, the Fire Department Maintenance and
Logistic section and well as oversees the personnel actions within the
Fire Department, including coordination with the City’s Human Resources
and Legal staff.
Chief
Moody holds both an Associate in Science Degree in Fire Science
Technology and a Fire Specialist Certificate. He holds his certification
in the International Fire Code as well as many certificates from the
National Fire Academy where he completed the Executive Fire Officer
program on December 10, 2004.
Chief
Moody is past President of the Hawkeye State Fire Safety Association. He
is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, member of the
International Association of Fire Chiefs and a member of the
International Association of Arson Investigators.
