Help Build More Trail
Proceeds from the 2018 Mayor's Annual Ride and Run will fund the next phase of the Des Moines River Trail. Join us Saturday, April 21 for the 5k run/walk at 9 a.m and 23-mile ride at 10 a.m. Cost is $30 for adults, $5 for ages 5-18 before April 21. New this year, pre-event breakfast from 8 - 10 a.m. Register online now!
Earth Day Trash Bash is Back
Volunteers are needed for Iowa's largest Earth Day cleanup event on Friday, April 20. Last year, we had 1,700 volunteers remove over 80,000 pounds of litter, brush, tires and recyclables while beautifying our public lands, cleaning up our waterways, clearing away invasive species, creating new trails and more. Join the effort this year!

New Annual Report Available
Des Moines Parks and Recreation is pleased to provide residents with the “2017 Report to the Community.” This report provides a high level overview of many of the department’s significant accomplishments over the past year.
Des Moines Parks and Recreation department manages 63 miles of paved multi-use and 18 miles of nature trails.
Our department is responsible for the management of 75 parks, over 4,000 acres of parkland, 81 miles of trails, seven cemeteries and numerous municipal facilities.
