This course will help you teach skills that may save a life, gain terrific work experience as an aquatics professional and earn money while you help people learn valuable skills. Cost is $175 per person.

  • Lifeguard Training Offered!

    Register today to become lifeguard certified! Participants will be trained with the knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Must have the ability to swim 300 yards. Participants are expected to have classroom and in water participation every day. Registration is $100 per person.

  • Birding Basics

    Get to know the birds that stop by Gray’s Lake Park as they pass by on their journey north. The lunch time sessions are free and perfect for all ages. Participants will meet from 11:00-11:45 am at Gray’s Lake every Wednesday starting March 1st and continuing through May 31st.

  • Adult Bags Registration Open!

    Sign up your duo for our summer adult bags league! Played at the Hub Spot, teams of two compete for six weeks to become the bean bag champions. Registration ends June 1, cost to register is $35 per team.

  • Get Your Groove on This Summer!

    Try out rock and roll or hip hop music camps this summer presented in partnership with the Des Moines Music Coalition. Cost is $40 per person per camp and participants get to perform live at the 80/35 Music Festival. Designed for kids aged 11-15. Register online through 6/12.

    On Memorial Day weekend a selection of artificial flowers will be available for purchase at the Glendale Cemetery office Friday, Saturday and Monday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Prices range from $9 to $25.

  • Stand Up Paddleboard Classes

    Des Moines Parks and Recreation along with the Iowa DNR are offering Stand Up Paddleboard basic skills courses at Grays Lake Park. These courses are designed to introduce and expose participants to the basics of Stand Up Paddleboarding in a flat water environment.

  • Butterfly Garden Plant.Grow.Fly New Date!

    The Plant.Grow.Fly event scheduled for Saturday, May 20 has been postponed and rescheduled to Saturday, May 27 from 10 am. - Noon. Learn about pollinators, decorate and fill a flower pot to take home and help plant the Butterfly Garden. There is still time to register and the fee is $10 per take home planter created.

  • SCHEELS Demo Day

    On Sunday, June 25 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m., SCHEELS will be presenting a FREE Demo Day at Gray’s Lake Park in partnership with Des Moines Parks and Recreation. This event is open to the public and will allow anyone ages 6-60+ to try a paddle board or kayak. Participants must sign a waiver and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No pre-registration is required.
