Welcome to the Des Moines Police Department's Detective Bureau. This bureau initiates proactive criminal investigations and does the follow-up investigation on all criminal offenses reported in our community. The primary function of the bureau is to ensure that cases are complete and properly prepared for prosecution. The bureau is commanded by a Major.
Investigators within the bureau are assigned to various specialized sections. As a result of specialization they develop a high level of expertise in dealing with specific types of crime and catgories of people. Through community outreach and coordination with other agencies the bureau has been able to extend its limited resources or maximize its efforts.
