Records Section

The Records Section provides valuable information to various public entities and private businesses by making available public records maintained by the Des Moines Police Department. This Section can be reached by calling (515) 283-4824.

This Section staff processes over 55,000 police investigation reports each year and transcribe an additional 300,000 pages of supplemental police reports per year.

All police reports are now maintained in the Section's Police Report Computerized Information System (PRCIS), which is the latest technology available for records management. All police reports and related paperwork are now stored and retrieved from PRCIS. All distribution of police reports throughout the police department are handled electronically by PRCIS.

Personnel assigned to the Information & Records Section also process approximately 12,000 requests per year for copies of various types of records maintained by this Secton. They also complete 1,600 police arrest checks per year.
