Recycling Biosolids

Biosolids are nutrient rich, organic materials produced by the wastewater treatment process that have been biologically stabilized. They contain nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium along with small amounts of secondary and micronutrients. The application of biosolids to land improves soil properties and plant productivity, and reduces the dependence on inorganic fertilizers.

What Else Should I Know?

Biosolids are safe. Regulations prohibit pollutants generated by industry from entering the collection system. This pre-treatment ensures that wastewater solids can be recycled safely with no threat to the environment.
