Authorizing Submission of the Public Housing Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator Grant Application.
Requesting approval for submission of grant application for the Public Housing Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and authorization for the Mayor to execute and the City Manager to implement grant if awarded.
Grant application is for $27,952 over a one-year period.
Approval
The City of Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency has received funding in the past from HUD for a part-time program coordinator to administer a Public Housing Family Self-Sufficiency Program for the Public Housing clients.
The program coordinator provides individual case management to assist clients in achieving goals to become self-sufficient. FSS Coordinators provide training, education, and job development skills to enrolled clients.
The Housing Agency has provided the Public Housing Family Self-Sufficiency Program since 1995 and currently provides case management to 9 clients.
Funds are available through HUD for this year's grant, and we would like to add one part time FSS Coordinator for the Public Housing individuals and families. The grant amount will cover the salary and fringe benefits for one part-time program coordinator.
