AGENDA HEADING:
Ordering construction of SW 8th Street Viaduct over M.L. King, Jr. Parkway Rehabilitation; and fixing a date for receiving bids on April 18, 2006 and public hearing on May 8, 2006; Jurisdictional Engineer's (Jeb Brewer, City Engineer) Estimate is $1,952,667
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend proceeding with the construction of the improvement utilizing the following method of financing.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount: $1,952,667
Funding Source: 2006-2007 CIP, Page Bridge-9, SW 8th Street Viaduct over M.L. King, Jr. Parkway, BRV035, various funding, being:
- Federal Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation (HBRR) funds for 80% of eligible construction to $1,000,000 maximum
- $952,667 in Tax Increment Bonds
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Engineering Department has prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and Jurisdictional Engineer’s estimate for the construction of the following improvement:
SW 8th Street Viaduct over M.L. King, Jr. Parkway Rehabilitation, 12-2004-003
Bridge rehabilitation including pavement scarification, concrete removal, bridge approach pavement, Class 'A' and 'B' bridge deck repairs, epoxy coated reinforcing steel, structural steel, bridge floor overlay, removal and replacement of expansion joints, concrete beam patching, concrete repairs, full and partial height parapet repairs, carbon fiber reinforcement polymer, epoxy injection, curb repairs, concrete waterproofing, containment, paint waste transport/disposal, painting of structural steel, pavement markings and traffic control all in accordance with the contracts documents including (Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) Standard Specifications for Highway and Bridge Construction - Series 2001, Special Provisions, and Plan Files 460-001/070 on the SW 8th Street Viaduct over M.L. King, Jr. Pkwy in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.
The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.
