AGENDA HEADING:
Approving the application for a Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company Heritage Grant.
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorizing the Chief of the Fire Department or his designee to submit a Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company Heritage Grant application.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount: $16,450 grant funds.
Funding Source: No local match required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company (FFIC) has an annual Heritage Grant program to provide funding directly to Fire Departments for firefighting tools, firefighter training, fire safety education and community emergency response programs. Fire Departments are recommended by independent agents or employees of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. Holmes Murphy and Associates have recommended the Des Moines Fire Department for a $16,450 grant.
We are requesting authorization to submit an application for the funding to purchase hardware/software to upgrade our video conferencing system and multimedia equipment that would be utilized in the presentation of training and education programs to the firefighters. If selected for this grant, the Fire Department would agree to participate in a press release and presentation event with FFIC and other activities that may include media interviews and video or still photography for various media use by FFIC in marketing of the Fireman’s Fund Heritage program.
