ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Total injury cost declined in 2005 by $115,658. Medical cost (physician, lab, hospitalization, etc.) decreased nearly $150,000. Indemnity payments and permanency payments, which also directly impact injury cost, increased slightly to lower the overall injury cost savings.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) incidence rate is a standard safety measurement of safety performance. It represents the number of injuries occurring per 100 employees. In 2005, the City’s incidence rate increased from 15 to 18. Other measurements that reflect injury severity, worsened as well. Only Fleet Maintenance and the Wastewater Treatment plant improved their incidence rate.
The attached report provides greater detail regarding the City’s 2005 injury record. The City is addressing safety through departmental safety committees in an effort to improve the City’s occupational health.
