AGENDA HEADING:
Bid No. V06-103, Vehicle Purchase to Replace Truck-mounted, Aerial Device Bucket Truck for Tree Work.
SYNOPSIS:
The Public Works Forestry Section employs an aerial device in tree pruning operations which is also used in the removal of dead or dangerous trees. The existing unit requires replacement and meets replacement criteria. Staff recommends approval to proceed with the purchase of a replacement truck-mounted aerial device for tree pruning and removals.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount: $123,190
Funding Source: 2005-2006 Operating Budget, Equipment Replacement Fund, PWK010407, page 283.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A bid proposal for one truck-mounted, aerial device, bucket truck, was sent to seven potential bidders and six bids were received. The low compliant bid in the amount of $123,190 was received from Freightliner of Des Moines, (Carl Schwam, President, 3601 Adventureland Dr., Altoona, IA 50009). The new unit will replace unit #508, a 1998 Ford that will be traded to Freightliner of Des Moines. The existing unit meets the established criteria for replacement. The new unit has two additional outriggers to enhance stability in operations and an extended reach to provide greater safety for employees. The new unit will operate at lower (idle) revolutions per minute (RPMs), reducing fuel consumption by 50 percent during onsite operations as compared to the existing unit.
