AGENDA HEADING:
Ordering construction of the following: 2006 Sidewalk Replacement Program - Designated Neighborhoods - Receiving bids, (6-6-06), and Setting date of hearing, (6-19-06). (Construction Estimate - $174,750).
SYNOPSIS:
Proceed with construction of the improvement utilizing the following method of financing. The improvement includes replacement of Portland Cement Concrete sidewalks, driveway approaches, and handicapped ramps at various Neighborhood Infrastructure Rehabilitation Program (NIRP) eligible locations in a cooperative effort with the City of Des Moines Public Works Department. The NIRP program provides for rehabilitation of right-of-way infrastructure in designated neighborhoods and has been instrumental in the implementation of designated neighborhood action plans, not only by upgrading the infrastructure in residential areas, but also by creating visual impact which enhances the housing rehabilitation component of the City’s revitalization program, which increases property values, and stimulates improvements by adjacent property owners

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Engineering Department has prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and City Engineer’s Estimate for the construction of the 2006 Sidewalk Replacement Program - Designated Neighborhoods, 09-2006-006. The improvement includes replacement of Portland Cement Concrete sidewalks (four-inches thick with six-inch thickness at driveways), and driveway approaches and handicapped ramps (six-inches thick), together with all other incidental right-of-ways in accordance with the contract documents in a cooperative effort with the City of Des Moines Public Works Department at various Neighborhood Infrastructure Rehabilitation Program (NIRP) eligible locations. Sidewalks will be replaced at locations inspected by the Public Works Department. Handicapped accessible ramps will also be constructed in the vicinity where sidewalks will be replaced.
The estimated construction cost is $174,750. The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.
Sidewalks will be replaced at locations inspected by the Public Works Department. Construction of the sidewalk is a cooperative effort with the City of Des Moines Public Works Department crews providing traffic control, concrete removal, forming, final grading and restoration; while the contractor supplies, places, and finishes the concrete. Handicapped accessible ramps with truncated domes will also be constructed at intersections in the vicinity where sidewalks will be replaced.
