AGENDA HEADING:
Authorizing City of Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency to submit the Public Housing Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator grant application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend approval for submission of the Public Housing Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator grant to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for one part time program coordinator and authorization for the Mayor to execute and the City Manager to implement the grant if awarded.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount: $29,382.40

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The City of Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency received funding last year from HUD for a part-time program coordinator to administer the Public Housing Family Self-Sufficiency Program for Public Housing clients.
The program coordinator provides individual case management to assist clients in achieving goals to become self-sufficient. FSS Coordinators provide training, education, and job development skills to enrolled clients.
The Housing Agency has provided the Public Housing Family Self-Sufficiency Program since 1995 and currently provides case management to seven clients.
Funds are available through HUD to renew last year’s grant and the grant will cover the salary and fringe benefits for the one part-time program coordinator.
