AGENDA HEADING:
2006 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program Grant Application
SYNOPSIS:
The City of Des Moines Police Department is filing a grant application through the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, 2006 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program to request funding for the expansion of the Mobile Crisis Response Team to 24 hour/seven days a week service.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount: $204,177 requested. 20% match, $40,835.40 which will be an in-kind match for a total of $245,012.40.
Funding Source: Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. Local match is in-kind, not cash.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) is a collaborative program with the Des Moines Police Department, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Polk County Health Services. The official start date of the program was September 7, 2001 when the MCRT began taking calls from the Des Moines Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department.
The program was given a City of Des Moines Proclamation in 2002 by the City Council recognizing the significant impact on the community.
