ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
In July 2005, City Council authorized an application to be submitted to the IDOT for S.W. 7th Street and Indianola Road Intersection Improvements. The IDOT has approved $285,000 for this project. The remaining costs, including design, inspection, construction, and project administration, are to be funded by the City. The total City cost is estimated to be $60,000.
This project consists of minor median and lane channelization modifications at this intersection, along with upgraded traffic signals in order to allow for two left-turning lanes and a single through lane for eastbound traffic. This left turn phase would be controlled as a “protected only” left turn. The existing traffic signal poles would be removed and new signal poles installed. Westbound and southbound traffic at the intersection would not be affected. Based on the traffic accident history of this intersection, the project was approved for state Traffic Safety Improvement Program funding.
