AGENDA HEADING:

 

Approving Professional Services Agreement with Calhoun-Burns & Associates, Inc. for evaluation, design, and construction phase services for rehabilitation of the S.E. 5th Street Bridge over Yeader Creek, not to exceed $49,902.

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend approval of the Professional Services Agreement with Calhoun-Burns & Associates, Inc., Michael A. Vander Wert, President, 1801 Fuller Road, P.O. Box 65859, West Des Moines, Iowa, 50265, for evaluation, design, and construction phase services for rehabilitation of the S.E. 5th Street Bridge over Yeader Creek for an amount not to exceed $49,902.  The existing bridge, constructed in 1976, has deteriorated to the point that rehabilitation is required to maintain the legal load limit rating.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The rehabilitation of the S.E. 5th Street Bridge over Yeader Creek was identified as a high priority project in the 2005 City-Wide Bridge and Structure Evaluation.  An RFP for these professional services was sent to seven consultants and posted on the City’s web site.  Four proposals were received in response to the RFP.  A selection committee composed of representatives from the Public Works, Traffic & Transportation, and Engineering Departments rated the proposals.  Calhoun-Burns & Associates, Inc. was the unanimous selection of the committee based on their qualifications, defined approach to this project, and established working relationship with the City.
