AGENDA HEADING:

Change Order No. 1 with Cramer & Associates, Inc. for additional work on
the University Avenue Bridge over the Des Moines River – Arch Rehabilitation
for a total not to exceed $78,095.
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend approval of Change Order No. 1 in an amount not to exceed
$78,095 with Cramer & Associates, Inc., (Robert Cramer, President/CAO), 990
N.E. 44th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, 50313, for additional work on
the University Avenue Bridge over the Des Moines River – Arch Rehabilitation to
provide additional arch removal and repair, mortar repair, and epoxy crack
injections.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The University Avenue Bridge over the Des Moines River – Arch
Rehabilitation project was designed to restore the structural integrity to the
bridge substructure. During
construction, the amount of deterioration on the arches was found to be more
than estimated during the design of the project. As construction has progressed, the estimated quantities for arch
removal and repair, mortar repair, and epoxy crack injections have been
exceeded. This project was bid using
the Iowa DOT specification, which requires field measurements of bridge repair
items, because these quantities must be determined during removal
operations. This increase is an
estimate of the additional arch removal and repair, mortar repair, and epoxy
crack injections that will be required to complete the remaining two spans. The $78,095 cost of this change order item
is the engineer’s estimate of the increase in quantities required to
complete the remaining two spans based upon the current rate of required
removals.
