AGENDA
HEADING:
Approving Second Amendment to the current lease with
the Greater Des Moines Baseball Company for maintenance at Principal Park.
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend
approval to amend the current lease between the Greater Des Moines Baseball
Company (GDMBC) (Michael Gartner, Owner, One Line Drive, Des Moines, Iowa,
50309) and the City of Des Moines to allow the GDMBC to assume responsibility
for costs related to the removal and disposal of rubbish, trash, and garbage
from Principal Park.
FISCAL
IMPACT:
Amount:
The City of Des Moines will save approximately $15,000 annually.
Funding
Source: Savings will be realized in the Park and
Recreation Department, Sec Taylor Stadium, GE001 PKS041600, page 140.
ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION:
The trash, rubbish, and/or garbage removal from Principal Park has been the responsibility of the City of Des Moines. During the annual contract renewal for this service in September 2005, a different carrier from previous years was awarded the bid. When the City accepted the low bid from the new carrier, the Iowa Cubs approached the City and offered at the next renewal date to provide the service at no cost to the City, as it was their desire to keep the previous garbage contract in place. The previous carrier had been a strong advertiser with the Iowa Cubs.
