AGENDA HEADING:

Ordering construction of the following: 2007 Expanded Street Resurfacing Program - Contract 2 - Receiving bids, (5-8-07), and Setting date of hearing, (5-21-07). (Construction Estimate - $1,108,500.80).

SYNOPSIS:

Recommend the City Council proceed with construction of the improvement utilizing the method of financing referenced below. This project provides for partial and full depth patching, surface milling, and hot mix asphalt (HMA) overlay of arterial and residential streets citywide. The project addresses citizen concerns regarding the condition of city streets by preserving deteriorating infrastructure. The City Council should set dates to receive bids and hold a public hearing as required by Iowa Code.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Amount: $1,108,500.80 City Engineer's Estimate

Funding Source: 2007-2008 CIP, Page Street-46, Special City-wide Street Improvements, STR217, Being: Gaming Monies from the Agreement with Polk County and The Racing Association of Central Iowa

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Engineering Department has prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and City Engineer’s estimate for the construction of the 2007 Expanded Street Resurfacing Program - Contract 2, 06-2007-012. The improvement includes scarification of existing asphalt streets, furnish and place hot mix asphalt, and furnish and place pavement markings, and other incidental items; in accordance with the contract documents, including Plans File Nos. 472-141/157, at the following locations:

· 49th Street - Waterbury Road to Harwood Drive

· 48th Street - Ingersoll Avenue to Harwood Drive

· 22nd Street - Forest Avenue to Washington Avenue

· M. L. King Jr. Parkway - Hickman Road to Welbeck Road

· Oxford Street - Sheridan Avenue to Hull Avenue

· North Union Street - Guthrie Avenue to Arthur Avenue

· Wisconsin Avenue - North Union Street to E 8th Street

· Grand Avenue - Pennsylvania Avenue to E 14th Street

· SE 6th Street - Hillside Street to Livingston Avenue

· SW 9th Street - Creston Avenue to Thornton Avenue

· Southview Drive - Amos Avenue to dead-end south

The estimated construction cost is $1,108,500.80. The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.
