AGENDA HEADING:

 

Approval of 2007 Justice Assistance Grant Application

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend approval of the 2007 Justice Assistance Grant application and the Memorandum of Understanding with Polk County identifying the City of Des Moines as the official applicant and fiscal agent.  This grant will be used for on forensic equipment upgrades, replacement of a case management system, officer safety items and mobile data computer equipment.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

Amount:  $236,419 with $204,715 awarded to the City of Des Moines Police Department and $31,704 awarded to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. There is no match requirement for this grant.

 

Funding Source:  U. S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, 2006-2007 Operating Budget, Page 309-Special Revenue Funds, SP751, POL984110.

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The City of Des Moines and Polk County are applying for $236,419 from the Justice Assistance Grant.  A requirement in receiving these funds is that the City and County sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that states the City is the official applicant and fiscal agent for this grant.  The Office of Justice Programs has deemed that our grant award is contingent on the City and Polk County having a Memorandum of Understanding.  The City of Des Moines has fulfilled the grant application requirements regarding Program Narrative, Budget Narrative and Review Narrative.  The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Polk County Board of Supervisors on June 5, 2007.

 

The grant period is from October 1, 2006 to September 30, 2010.
