AGENDA HEADING:

Approval for submission of an application for 21 Section 8 Housing vouchers to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

SYNOPSIS:

Recommend approval to submit to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) an application for 21 Section 8 Housing vouchers and authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute and implement the funding if awarded.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Amount: $109,116 (estimate based on current average costs)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency (DMMHA) has received funding from HUD since March 25, 1969 for Section 8 rental assistance programs.

Section 8 rental assistance is being requested for the eligible residents at Plymouth Place, Des Moines, Iowa, due to the expiring Rent Supplement contract with the current owner. DMMHA will be awarded 21 housing vouchers to provide rental assistance to the current eligible residents.

The vouchers will entitle DMMHA to HUD funding in the approximate amount of $109,116.
