The proposed improvement consists of upgrading the existing traffic signal interconnect system on East University Avenue (Iowa 163) from Hubbell Avenue to Williams Avenue, and on East 30th Street from University Avenue to Dean Avenue. The project involves installing fiber optic cable within existing and new conduit systems, and interconnecting the traffic signals along this corridor with fiber optic cable. Minor modifications to the traffic signal equipment will be required at each signalized intersection. A traffic observation camera will also be included for traffic flow monitoring, along with the installation of two Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) to assist with motorist information in the vicinity of the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
