AGENDA HEADING:

 

Setting date of hearing on lease agreement with St. Joseph’s Church for parking on Grandview Park parking lot at East 33rd Street and Easton Boulevard.

 

 

SYNOPSIS: 

 

Approving and authorizing execution of a five-year lease agreement with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for the church to continue leasing the parking lot on the northwest corner of 33rd Street and Easton Boulevard from the City of Des Moines.   

 

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

Amount: $1,750 Revenue ($350 annually for five years)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

 

In 1967, St. Joseph’s Church began leasing the parking lot on the northwest corner of 33rd Street and Easton Boulevard from the City to provide additional parking for church activities.  Additional non-exclusive parking lot leases have been executed to continue the agreement since that time.  The most recent lease, authorized by City Council Roll Call No. 03-216, on January 27, 2003 expired on February 1, 2008.  In addition to an annual lease payment of $350, the church is responsible for a portion of the maintenance of the property.  There is currently no public need for the property and the public would not be inconvenienced by the lease of the parking lot.
