AGENDA HEADING:

date of hearing on lease agreement with St. Joseph’s
Church for parking on Grandview
Park parking lot at East 33rd Street

SYNOPSIS:
Approving and authorizing execution of a five-year
lease agreement with St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church for the church to continue leasing the parking lot on the northwest
corner of 33rd Street
and Easton Boulevard
from the City of Des Moines.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
In 1967, St. Joseph’s Church began leasing the parking
lot on the northwest corner of 33rd
Street and Easton Boulevard from the City to provide
additional parking for church activities.
Additional non-exclusive parking lot leases have been executed to
continue the agreement since that time. The most recent lease, authorized
by City Council Roll Call No. 03-216, on January 27, 2003 expired on February
1, 2008. In addition to an annual lease
payment of $350, the church is responsible for a portion of the maintenance of
the property. There is currently no
public need for the property and the public would not be inconvenienced by the
lease of the parking lot.
