AGENDA HEADING:
Approving the purchase of fifty-four
(54) Panasonic laptop computers and various mounting equipment to be used by
the Patrol Bureau, Detective Bureau and the Vice and Narcotics Section.
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend
approval of these 54 laptop computers. The Des Moines Police Department has
been working towards a mobile information system to allow the officers access
to on-site data through computers mounted in the Police vehicles. The purchase
of these additional laptops and mounting equipment will expand the number of
vehicles capable of this access.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The equipment
being purchase will increase the number of officers able to access information
as they work in the community. The officers will be better informed with up to
date information and any possible alerts which may be associated with a situation.
In an effort to maintain consistency and compatibility, the equipment will be
