AGENDA HEADING:

 

Approving and authorizing the execution of Iowa Interstate Railroad, Ltd. Grade Crossing Surface Repair Program Agreements for S.E. 1st Street, S.E. 3rd Street, S.E. 4th Street, and S.E. 7th Street.

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend approval of Grade Crossing Surface Repair Program Agreements as prepared by Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT), which will allow construction and cost participation in the installation of railway/highway surface crossing improvements for the four crossings.  The total estimate of the project is $274,099.37 of which the City shall participate in 20% of the total estimate, or $54,819.87.

  • $54,819.87 20% City share, 2007-08 CIP, Page Street-35, Railroad Crossing Surface Repairs and Signal Improvements, STR139
  • $54,819.87 – 20% share, Iowa Interstate Railroad, Ltd.
  • $164,459.63 – 60% share, IDOT

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The City of Des Moines and Iowa Interstate Railroad, Ltd. submitted a request to the IDOT for Iowa Grade Crossing Surface Repair Fund for S.E. 1st Street (FRA No. 603714G), S.E. 3rd Street (FRA No. 603712T), S.E. 4th Street (FRA No. 603711L), and S.E. 7th Street (FRA No. 603708D).  The IDOT Office of Rail Transportation has approved these funds for repair and improvement on these four crossings.  The agreements shall cover construction of new surface crossings with precast concrete panels and drainage improvements.

 

The construction of the surface crossing improvements at these four crossings is scheduled by the IDOT for summer of 2008.  The project will be constructed by Iowa Interstate Railroad, Ltd.
