ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The 2007 Expanded Street Resurfacing Program Contract 2 project includes scarification of existing asphalt streets, furnishing and placement of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) resurfacing, pavement markings, and other incidental items.  The asphalt street surface on Court Avenue from Water Street to 5th Street is over 20 years old, and due to recent development activities, and utility construction and relocation, the street surface has deteriorated.  On December 3, 2007, by Roll Call No. 07-2338, the City Council approved a contract for the Court Avenue Streetscape Rehabilitation.  This project includes improvements to the planting beds, landscaping, street furnishings, and light fixtures to coincide with recent development in the Court Avenue corridor.

Aesthetically, it is very desirable to enhance the appearance of Court Avenue to coincide with the streetscape improvements and recent development by resurfacing the street with new asphalt.  This resurfacing must be completed prior to the opening of the Downtown Farmers Market in May.  To avoid conflicts with the Downtown Farmers Market, this change order has been negotiated with Des Moines Asphalt & Paving Co.  Des Moines Asphalt & Paving Co. has agreed to an extension of the existing May 2007 contract unit prices for this work, which should result in savings to the City over 2008 construction prices.
