ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
On December 3, 2001, by Roll Call No. 01-3524, the City Council adopted
the Resolution of Necessity for the 10th
Street Streetscape from Walnut Street to Mulberry Street. This action provided for the assessment of
streetscape improvements north and east of the Hotel Fort Des Moines to the
abutting property owner (Hotel Fort Des Moines). This project was delayed while the long-term
future of the parking ramp on the east side of 10th Street was decided. Now that the Davis-Brown Tower
project is nearing completion, the owner of the Hotel Fort Des Moines has
requested that the project move forward.
The streetscape improvements on the east side of 10th Street will be designed
by a consultant retained by LADCO Development, Inc. and constructed as part of
the Davis-Brown Tower project. The streetscape improvements on the west side
of 10th Street
will be designed by a consultant retained by the Hotel Fort Des Moines (Brian
Clark & Associates). The streetscape
improvements on both sides of 10th
Street will make modifications to the existing
sidewalk area requiring reconstruction of the existing street. The street reconstruction will be combined
with the streetscape improvements adjacent to the Hotel Fort Des Moines in a
City administered contract. Snyder &
Associates was the design consultant for the Mulberry Street Storm Sewer – 9th Street
to 10th Street
project that is being constructed by the City, and was the civil engineering
consultant for the Davis-Brown
Tower. Due to their specialized knowledge of
recently constructed infrastructure and their established working relationship
with the consultants, contractors, and owners of the Davis-Brown Tower,
Snyder & Associates was selected to design the street reconstruction
portion of the project. Staff has
negotiated a Professional Services Agreement with Snyder & Associates, for
an hourly agreement not to exceed $45,500, to provide design and construction
phase services for the 10th
Street Streetscape project.
