ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Court Avenue Streetscape Rehabilitation Project includes removing tree grates, constructing planting beds, landscaping, and replacing the street and pedestrian lights to coincide with recent development in the Court Avenue corridor between Water Street and 5th Avenue.  During the design of the project, it was proposed to use the existing light pole bases and wiring along Court Avenue.  This approach significantly reduced the overall cost of replacing the lights.  Based on a field examination of several existing light pole bases, it was anticipated that the majority of the new poles could be mounted on the existing bases without any modifications.

The new light fixtures selected for Court Avenue have improved lighting characteristics and energy efficiency over the existing fixtures.  However, the actual poles selected and delivered have a slightly different mounting arrangement than envisioned in the preliminary design, which resulted in problems connecting them to the existing bases.  Alternate poles were investigated to find a different mounting arrangement.  However, after considering light characteristics, energy use, and historic aesthetics, it was determined that the selected pole fixture was preferable and that the existing bases could be modified to accept the poles.

This change order will include installing extenders to the existing anchor bolts, forming and pouring new concrete tops on the bases, and cutting and reinstalling brick around the bases that require modification for the selected poles along Court Avenue.
