AGENDA HEADING:

 

Ordering construction of the following:  2008 Park Playground Curbing - Receiving bids, (5-6-08), and Setting date of hearing, (5-19-08).  (Construction Estimate - $50,700).

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend the City Council proceed with construction of this improvement and set dates to receive bids and hold a public hearing, as required by Iowa Code, utilizing the method of financing as referenced below.  This provides for the installation of curbing and engineered wood fiber surfacing for the existing playground equipment at Woodlawn Park and Burke Park.  New sidewalks and ramps will be constructed to make the playgrounds handicapped accessible and improve access for all users.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

Amount:  $50,700 City Engineer's Estimate

 

Funding Source:  2008-2009 CIP, Page Parks-15, Neighborhood Park Improvements, PKS137, being $28,700 in G. O. Bonds from PKS137 and $22,000 in G. O. Bonds from ADA Modifications for Municipal Buildings, Page Municipal Improvements-4, BLD042

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The Engineering Department has prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and City Engineer’s estimate for the construction of the 2008 Park Playground Curbing, 11-2008-008.  The improvement includes construction of PCC curbing, engineered wood fibers surfacing and PCC sidewalk; all in accordance with the contract documents including Plan File Nos. 489-109/112 at Woodlawn Park, 4310 Lawnwoods Drive and Burke Park, 1150 E. 7th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

 

The estimated construction cost is $50,700.  The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.

ANTICIPATED ACTIONS AND FUTURE COMMITMENTS:

 

Anticipated actions include public hearing, receive and file bids, designate lowest bidder, and approve contract and bond; also partial payments to the contractor and final acceptance of work.
